Open Question: What should I do about a punctured heel?

Mon, 19 Nov 2007 21:08:06 GMT
I am an Intern student from CT that is currently at a fish farm in TX. The other day, while my boss and I were doing some collecting at a local creek a small branch, no bigger than 1/5th of an inch in diameter went through my water shoe and punctured my heel. At first the wound was not bleeding and I brushed it off as a bruise, but less than a minute later it started bleeding for a short amount of time (roughly 5 mins). The pain, while excruciating to walk on, is not enough to make me feel it is worth going to the emergency room. However, I am not sure how long to stay off my foot, what to do to speed up recovery, or if there is anything I should be worried about. My insurance has still yet to kick in, and I dont want to make my boss pay for somthing that occured while on recreation. Any ideas? I want to get back to work, and I dont want to feel disabled come thanksgiving either.
